Five years to go…
Winter SunIt’s 21-12-2007 today and exactly five years until the purported consciousness singularity or possible 2012 doomsday. I feel it is a good time to take a look at the subject of preparation and planning. Five years is not a long time when we are discussing preparation for world-wide disasters or indeed for a spiritual evolution reliant on ones level of personal attainment. There are it seems now three clear camps in relation to the 21-12-2012 subject. Firstly we have the people that just see it as a day like any other no special preparation required, secondly there are those with everything fully in hand or well under way, and lastly there are those still scrabbling about and pulling out there hair every time the topic is mentioned.

A very remarkable planetary/galactic configuration occurrs on 23–24 December 2007. The configuration on December 23 — Mars, Earth, Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Galactic Centre; it becomes even more remarkable in that it will be accompanied by the Full Moon (conjunct Mars) at about 2 a.m. on December 24 when a simultaneous Venus square Neptune occurs. It is even more remarkable in that the Pluto/Sun conjunction appears exactly on the Winter Solstice, just past conjunction with the Galactic Centre.

As a member of a 2012 related online community I have engaged in many conversations about the logistics of surviving any upcoming calamity, whether it relates to earthquake, meteorites, pole reversal or perhaps the flooding after NASA's predicted total Arctic melt by 2012. For those who wonder if there are people taking this all very seriously I can confirm there indeed are. Some are already equipping underground bunkers with oxygen scrubbers, stocking ammo, training in survival courses and buying up a supply of dried or canned foods suitable to feed them for a year. Others have cashed in the 401K, pensions and other long term investments to better use money now that they feel will otherwise be lost when national economies crash. A number of books are available that also deal with the subject and some are beginning to fly off the shelves.

It’s hard to judge how much more effort is going into personal self development by those aware of 2012 information. One indicator is to look at the number of related titles selling on Amazon and other book selling sites, judging by this people are indeed far more interested in working on themselves once discovering the 2012 subject. Books combining such subjects are doing surprisingly well in the rankings. If one Google’s 2012 it now brings up thousands of links that relate to these topics, most with a spiritual bent rather than simply disaster survival discussions.

Five years to go, and it seems that people are really engaging with the 21-12-2012 subject, like I have never seen before. All eyes now seem to be fixed on the Mayan elders, we wait with baited breath to see whether they can help clarify just what to expect and how best to prepare.

What will they reveal?
